While my time at QUT has all but ended, I know that there are many people out there who are so close to beginning their lives at university. And I’m sure that there are many others who, like me, would love to study Creative and Professional Writing or other Creative Industries courses. But let’s be honest though. The thought of studying at university is daunting. It’s a big change from high school, and it’s likely that you don’t know what to expect. Although every course is different, I’ve compiled a list that will help you get the best out of your time studying Creative Industries at QUT.
Have you ever had one those days when you really want to get a good start on your assignment? You turn on your computer, thinking that you’re going to get at least a thousand words over and done with in one sitting. This is it! It’s going to be the best assignment you’ve ever done and you’ll get a High Distinction on it. But when you finally open up the Word document, all you can hear are the sounds of crickets chirping as you wait for the assignment to magically start itself and you wonder how you’re ever going to get a single sentence out?
My year officially finishes on 1 November, because that’s when the last of my 50% assignments are due (no exams, yay). Yes, my sanity may be declining since I have four 50% assignments to do AT THE SAME TIME, but realising just how close Christmas and New Year’s Eve are, it’s giving me motivation to….well, get motivated. And thus I have created an action plan for 2013, my 3rd and penultimate year of uni, filled with things I’m going to try and do.
Because this is much more productive than actually doing my assignments.
Whether it’s because of our own self-righteousness, ego, insecurities or even just past experience, these two little words strike fear into students everywhere. You know the ones I mean – they invoke dread, anxiety, appeals of grades and many meltdowns in between. Even the thought of collaboration stops many a heart in fear. You guessed right – this scourge I speak of is the hated GROUP ASSIGNMENT *shudder*.
