QUT Open Day

Each year, QUT Open Day is so much fun. I still remember my first Open Day – I was a young Grade 12 student seeking out what to do with my life, wondering what I would like to do after high school.

Lucky for me and a group of other students, my visit to QUT’s Open Day was also combined with luncheon – a special invitation from the university. I was congratulated and encouraged with an award for being a great student at high school and that QUT had recognised the potential in me. It was a great Open Day and first experience at QUT.

Receiving an award from QUT for my acknowledged potential at QUT Open Day with my parents!

Orientation Week through the student/staff lens

A week ago I went to a KickSTART opening session and saw at least 200 new students in one lecture room. Some of them were more nervous than others, but all of them were proud to be starting their journey at university.

Monday was the first day of Orientation (O Week), and there were so many new students going around. I had the privilege of meeting many of them at the Welcome Tent at Gardens Point campus, and could not be more excited to share what happened!

I spent all day welcoming new students to QUT, thousands of them! And I LOVED IT!

2 Things I found in QUT’s studywell this Summer

The holidays are almost over, but before the real world learning takes over my schedule, I decided to dedicate some of my holiday time to sharpening up my study skills to get ready for the new semester. Friends – the family we choose for ourselves.

Friends make life a little sweeter.

And today is  ‘Make a Friend Day’ – the day to stop, take stock of your friends, and make some new ones too!

Life as a student can be tough but is an extremely rewarding journey and even better one spent with friends. Your first year of uni is a great time to invest a little extra effort and time into speaking, smiling, and talking to your fellow students.

A wise proverb states, “In order to have friends, you must first be one”.

QUT Made it Possible for me to Travel and Study

When I started university, I never had the immediate urge to travel to foreign lands. This was mainly because of my lack of savings and just general nervousness of starting this new phase of life; leaving the high-school routine I had gotten ever so used to and stepping into this large, scary pond filled with new knowledge and a whole bunch of expectations.  Read more

Reflecting on my journey at QUT so far

I want to take you through my journey from Year 12 to my second year at university. I hope by sharing my experience I will help others realise university isn’t as scary as it may seem.

In Year 12, I found it frustrating being constantly asked about my future and what I wanted to become. Unlike now, I didn’t even know which direction to take when choosing a degree (I knew I wanted to go to uni, though).

I did not know what I could possibly do with my life when finishing Year 12

Wish upon a visual board

Does a visual board of wishes really work? Well, to answer this question I would like to share my board from last Christmas:

My partner and I created this board of wishes before the 2015 Christmas while we barely could even believe these dreams could come true in the nearest future

Now let me give you three reasons to make one of those boards yourself.

So Many Options!

As I come closer to finishing my Bachelor’s degree, I’m starting to think about my options post-graduation. Though catching up on missed sleep seems like a solid plan (to make up for all of those questionable all-nighters), I’ve come to realise that I need to think ahead. Read more
