Are you QUT’s next student blogger?

We are on the lookout for new bloggers to contribute to the student sharehouse. The blog is designed to give prospective students an idea of what university is really like, with many current students following and sharing their own experiences.

You need to be a current QUT undergraduate student to apply. We are really keen to hear from you if this is your first year, as you are likely to find the uni experience challenging at times and you know first-hand what prospective students are going through. You’ll need to blog at least once a month and to keep it to a PG rating.

We don’t edit your blog or tell you what to write, but we won’t publish anything that breaches the QUT Student Code of Conduct. You can blog about any topic of interest to you and it doesn’t have to be all good news, as we are looking for a genuine account of life at uni. You aren’t limited to words for your blog – you can use photos, music, drawings or video – anything you choose.

We have a selection panel lined up to choose the best bloggers to join the existing contributors. If you are selected as a new recruit you will receive training in how to use the blogging platform, regular inspiration for blog topics and tips on being a successful blogger. You will also go into the running to win the blog of the month, with some great prizes on offer.

To enter you need to write your profile and first blog for the student sharehouse. Please keep your profile to about 300 words and your blog no more than 2,500 words. Then just send your entry to explore@qut.edu.au by Friday 23 March 2012.

While you are here, remember to subscribe to the blog so you receive updates straight to your inbox. If you have your own blog and would like to link from the sharehouse website, send us your link.

Please don’t hesitate to email us if you have any feedback or questions.

Good luck, and we hope to hear from you soon.

Do student bloggers still get a laptop to help them make a post once a month?

      Hi Kaleb,

We are no longer offering a start up prize of a net book. Instead we are putting the money towards prizes for the best blog each month. The readers will be able to vote on their favourites.

      Cheers

      Hi DK

At this stage we are looking to recruit undergraduate students to blog only. I’ll be in touch if we decide to start a postgraduate student blog.

      Cheers

Hey there, I’m thinking of entering but I was just wondering what you were looking for in the profile? I’d really love the consideration, especially since my sister hasn’t stopped bugging me about entering.

      Hi Brianna

The profile only needs to be a few words about yourself. If you are keen to see what we are after, click on the current bloggers link on the top toolbar and you will see examples of student profiles. Good luck with your entry.

      cheers

    Hi,
Is it worth applying if I’m in my final semester or are you looking for someone for the whole year?

    • avatar
      qutdigital

      Hi Bridget

We are keen to have students who are able to blog with us for at least a full year. If you only have a semester to go, then it’s probably not worth entering the competition.

Good luck with your final semester!

      cheers

hi I just wanted to ask about about becoming qut blooger. If your undergraduate student and not a first year say second or third year or a combination could you become a blogger?

      Hi Bobby

All undergraduate students are invited to apply, if you will be at QUT for another year of study. We put the call out to first years specifically, as they are new to QUT and probably not as confident to make an application.

      Good luck with your entry.

      cheers

I’m nearly finished my degree but have been part time with QUT for a few years. are you interested in hearing from a mature student who can reflect very well on QUT’s support?

      Hello Janine

We are certainly interested in hearing from mature age students, and their take on life at QUT. You are likely to help many students who are looking to enter university, and current students who need some words of advice to get through the semester.

Just make sure that you are studying at QUT for a full year, so we get your blogs throughout 2012.

      cheers

    Hi,
I am just wanting to check two things, 1. Does the blog identify the blogger or can you do it under a pseudo name? &
    2. Do you have to be an internal student?

    Cheers

      Hi Amy

The blog is all about being real and authentic, so we would like to identify the blogger by first name and provide profile information. You will also have your image displayed on the site.

You do not need to be an internal student to blog for the website. It would be good to hear about life as an external student. I’m sure you have a different view on life and challenges to tackle.

Good luck if you choose to enter Amy.

      cheers
