Virtual Reality comes to the Games Lab at QUT Library! And it’s yours to explore. Borrow the PlayStation VR Headset from HiQ at Kelvin Grove and experience immersive virtual reality.

Ocean Descent, Danger Ball, The Luge, Resident Evil Biohazard and Batman Arkham are just some of the games and experiences available.

Virtual Reality in the Library

QUT Library at Kelvin Grove will be showcasing our Virtual Reality resources during Week 13. Try various VR headsets including Oculus Rift, PlayStation and Voxkin , and discover the wide range of VR content available to you from the Library!

Come and join us in the Games Lab on Level 4 and HiQ Level 2 on Wednesday 25th and Thursday 26th of October between 1pm-3pm.

Can’t make it to the library then? We have you covered! Our Games Lab is open the same time as HiQ so you can pop in and play the PS4 and Xbox One to your hearts content. Plus we have a whole bunch of games available for you to play and borrow.

Hopefully we will see you for some fun with virtual reality or maybe borrowing some games!

Just Dance 2017 is now in the Games Lab!

If exam stress is getting to you, burn off some energy and release those endorphins with Just Dance 2017 – new on the Xbox One in the KG Library Games Lab.

Test out your groove in the Games Lab to tracks from Anitta, Sia, Justin Bieber, Major Lazer, Fifth Harmony, Queen and Beyoncé.

And with our subscription to the Just Dance Unlimited add-on, dance to an additional 150 hits including songs such as “Cheerleader (Felix Jaehn Remix)” by OMI, “Better When I’m Dancin” by Meghan Trainor, “Shut Up and Dance” by Walk the Moon and many more.

Grab the Xbox One controllers from the Kelvin Gove HiQ in the Library, head to the Games Lab on level 4 and bust some moves.

Play games for free in the library Games Lab!

Kelvin Grove Library has been very popular with students spending their downtime in the Games Lab on level 4. The Xbox One or PS4 consoles, which are located in the Games Lab, come pre-loaded with games so all you need to do is collect the controllers from the library Helpdesk before you head upstairs to play.

On the Xbox One, games include:

  • Assassins Creed Unity
  • GTA 5
  • Far Cry 4
  • Call of Duty: Black Ops III
  • Tom Clancy’s The Division
  • Dying Light: The Following
  • Dragon Age Inquisition.

Or if you prefer the PS4, try:

  • Far Cry Primal
  • FIFA 16
  • Fall Out 4
  • Assassins Creed Syndicate
  • Assassins Creed Chronicles
  • Battlefield 4
  • Coming soon to the PS4 in May – Uncharted 4.

If you are interested in using an older console the Xbox 360 and PS3 can be borrowed from the Library Helpdesk, all you need to do is set them up in the Games Lab. The games on disc for all these consoles are on Level 3 of the Kelvin Grove Library at the call number range: 794.8. Happy Gaming!

National Youth Week!

Are you young or young at heart?

This year’s National Youth Week runs from April 10-19 and there are a bunch of great events happening around Queensland.

Here in the Library, we’ve got heaps of resources to help you bring out your inner child:

Hire a console from the Help Desk and bring some friends to the Games Lab this Youth Week!

  • Hire out a Wii, Xbox One, Xbox 360 or PS3 and play in our Games Lab
  • Our social media resources have some great tips for using social media proactively in your studies
  • QUT Library has a new Facebook page – head on over and give it a ‘like’ for study tips, workshop news and other useful Library tips!
  • Check out the Curriculum Collection on level 4 at Kelvin Grove – we’ve got puppets, books, maps, puzzles and other fun and games for children of all ages

So, if playing with a puppet, doing a workout with a Wii or Farmvilling on Facebook is your thing, take a break from your study and see what else the Library has to offer this Youth Week!

Games Lab: Get over here!

Fancy a little bit of R&R between lectures and tutorials? Why not come up to the Games Lab on level 4 of Kelvin Grove library and play your favourites games.

You can collect Wii, PS3 and Xbox controllers from the KG Learning and Research Desk staff and away you go. There are lots of games to choose from in the collection: from Assassin’s Creed to The Legend of Zelda. Why not try out some new dance moves with Just Dance 3? Or take on the role of Captain Shepherd in Mass Effect 3? You can even take on all Batman’s foes in Lego Batman 2 or discover if the cake is a lie in Portal.

The Games Lab at Kelvin Grove library is now bigger and better!

Located on level 4 of the library, come and play your favourites or hone your gaming skills on Wii, PS3 and Xbox. For the energetic amongst you, PS3 Move and Xbox Kinect are also on offer.

Grab some games from level 4 or from the Course Reserve collection (call number 794.8), collect your controllers from the friendly staff at the Learning and Research Desk and you’re ready to play!
