Impact Social Enterprise 2017

When I told people that I would be spending my weekend – both entire days, Saturday and Sunday! – doing university-related things instead of enjoying the sub-Summer temperatures like the rest of Brisbane, many people told me that something must’ve been wrong or I needed the extra credit.

New perspectives on the international student experience

As an international student doing the Master in Business with a major in Strategic Advertising at QUT, I can say that enrolling in the project unit has been one of the most enriching academic experiences I have had in Australia. One of several reasons I chose QUT was its promise to deliver highly relevant knowledge linked to industry level practices that students will face once finished their courses. Read more

Go global with QUT: Part B – Dragon 100 united in China

The time at Hong Kong went by very fast and the next and final stop of our Dragon 100 trip was China.

We visited two completely different cities in China: Qian hai and Xi’an. Qian hai is a very modern city close to Hong Kong and the main industry of this city is its harbour industry. On the other hand, Xi’an, one of the oldest cities in China, has rich and culturally significant history.

AMB264: The subject that keeps on giving

When I began my public relations major at the start of this year, I was a bit nervous (to say the least). I had made the leap in blindly changing from marketing, with fingers crossed that I would thrive within the PR sphere. Little did I know, I was making a decision that I would thank myself for time and again over the months to come. Read more

QUT Business takes the University Scholars Leadership Symposium 2016

A few weeks ago, I had the privilege of attending the 2016 University Scholars Leadership Symposium (USLS) in Hanoi, Vietnam. Attended by over 700 delegates from 69 countries, USLS aimed to ‘provide the next generation of leaders with a vision of how to distinguish themselves as future leaders of the 21st century.’  The symposium truly did achieve everything it set out to do and much more. This Little Piggy Went to the Market…

Being lucky enough to say I have already visited Hong Kong twice before, I like to think I know exactly what to expect no matter what I may face in the bustling city. Whether it is the never-ending wave of people and cars, yelling and beeping at each other or the amazing lights, food and culture. I thought I had seen everything Hong Kong had to offer.

That Jen Feeling

Returning back to our old friend, Hotel Jen, for an industry visit was a great way to finish the Hong Kong leg of our QUT advertising and public relations study tour. Marisa Aranha, Vice President Sales and Marketing for Hotel Jen, provided a detailed insight into the creative branding of Hotel Jen (a rebrand for many of the Traders hotels) in 2014, and the subsequent launch of the new brand into the global market.

IMG_8717After experiencing #thatjenfeeling during the beginning days of our study tour, we were able to view the key objectives set out for Hotel Jen’s brand through our own experience. The objectives of the brand were met, and exceeded all our expectations spectacularly.

Destroy/Save the World in 4 days or BrizMUN 2016

If you have ever played a video game like Civilization, you probably have an understanding of how hard it is to promote your country’s interests on the global scale. And if you are interested in international politics, you know for sure that it is nearly impossible to get everything you want without giving something back.

BrizMUN four day program gives students and opportunity to dive into vigorous debates around the most critical issues, United Nations style. The program is designed to emulate the UN’s committees, councils and general assemblies with the real current political and social issues on the table.

Undertaking an internship

Choosing the right degree is daunting, but figuring out what to do after Uni is even more overwhelming. Employers prefer grads with “experience” but finding the right experience can be challenging. However, this is less challenging thanks to our access to QUT supported internships that provide students with career specific experiences – increasing the likelihood of graduate employment.

I have been fortunate to have gained experience through the CPIE Scholarship program. The CPIE internship provided me with the opportunity to put the theory I had learnt into practice and gain real-world experience. The experiences gained assisted me to decide on areas of potential specialisation within my chosen field.
