Unpacking backpacktivism: Facing fair-trade fashion

Today marks one month before I embark on my first trip to Bangladesh.

In December 2016, I graduated from a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Fashion) and Bachelor of Business (Marketing). My degree took me in many unexpected directions, beginning with a dream to become a wedding dress designer but instead, finding a passion for ethical supply chain management. In my final year of study, I focused my graduate collection on educating consumers about some of the issues in fashion production and consumption, such as cotton production, dye waste and workers’ rights.

Double Degree (QUT/EDHEC): Is it worth the challenge?

In July 2014 I started my studies at QUT in Masters Business Advanced (Applied Finance) as an international student. Imagine the excitement, fear, uncertainty  and millions of crashing feelings I felt when I first arrived to Brisbane from a 36 hour flight (Mexico City – Los Angeles – Fiji – Brisbane). My first impressions of Australia were similar to most of the international students : A paradise full of friendly people that you will not understand half of what they are talking about. Do they even speak English?!

The Double Degree Survival Guide

My first official day as a QUT student started with heavy rain, a bad cappuccino, a coffee stain on my pants, falling into a stranger’s lap and tripping up two sets of stairs. Double the Trouble

On my first day of university, I (a tea drinker), decided I wanted to fit into the coffee crowd. With my chin in the air and a purposeful stride, I walked into the first café I saw and ordered the first coffee on the menu. I attempted to put the lid on it and by some act of Satan I emptied the entire contents of the cup on my white shirt. On the same day I walked into an incorrect lecture room and also happened to wave at two different people who as it turns out weren’t waving at me. A typical Thursday, really.

How to keep up with a double degree

Have you ever left your assessments to last minute? They also happen to be based on two completely different topics as well?

I have had that happen a lot lately! For example, two weeks ago I had a Journalism assignment due on Friday but had a Business Law and Ethics test the next day which I did not do enough study for!

How do you manage it all though?
