Life as an SLA

PG SLAs (left to right) Marcus, Tara, Negin

This semester will be my fourth semester assisting students as a Postgraduate Student Learning Advisor (SLA). I’m part of a team of current undergraduate and postgraduate students who help Business students succeed in their studies. I applied to become a SLA after meeting a current SLA at an event held on campus. She encouraged me to apply at the end of September when applications opened.

Each week I work a shift where I am able to provide support and assistance to current postgraduate students with understanding unit content, study skills, assessment preparation, and managing their studies. I enjoy being an SLA because I like talking to students about studying, and sharing my tips and recommendations for units I’ve successfully completed. Being an SLA is also a great motivation for me to continue to succeed in my own studies.
